Friday Editorial: Commas, please!

Since I’m doing a bit of editing this evening, I thought I would mention something so small, so innocent, and yet, has a substantial impact on your writing. Commas.

Different publishers have different rules regarding commas. The primary rule here at Pink Petal Books is this: if it is grammatically correct to use a comma, use it. Please. My other half, who is far more of a grammar guru than I, also tells me that if a sentence needs a comma to be understood, use it. He’s very liberal with his commas, and we’ve had long conversations about the use of commas and various publisher’s “house styles.”

There are a few places where I see missing commas the most.
