This is a well-thought-out and well-researched piece. Thanks for taking on a very difficult topic. Here's what I would add to it, though.

Many religions that practice polygamy do it in a very specific way - one man"has" many wives. This suggests that women can be "had" in the ways that cars and boats can be had; that women are possessions, and, the more the merrier.

There are also spiritual (and non-spiritual) communities that practice non-sexist polyamory where it is not about gender, it is only about love. I do think there can be a different energy between the concept of a group marriage and the concept of a man having many wives - not always but sometimes.

To reference another fringe sexual community, it is the difference between "wife-swapping" and swinging.

I have to say I think anything that makes a woman a commodity is a dangerous thing. Anything that allows consensual love to happen without fetters is a good thing. I haven't a clue how laws could be crafted to protect against on extreme but make room for the other.

I view writing as my job. It doesn't matter how I feel, whether I would rather be in bed, or if I'm sick, or what, I still have to get behind the wheel of the truck and make my run. Writing is the same thing. I put on my hat and drive the bus. Every day. I find the words come because I summon them, while if I wait for them, they dawdle along, like sleepy kids not wanting to go to school.

Mood is a thing for cattle and lovemaking. It has no place where work is concerned.

Oh yes, I agree we must/should write from the heart—it shows. There's a difference in my writing when I'm writing for a theme or contest and the idea isn't mine. The story might be good and well received, but I don't have that connection, if that makes sense. I recently finished the largest novel I've ever written, it took me a while but what a sense of accomplishment I have. Thanks for the great blog, Mary. Made me stop and think.

Mary, I'd go barefoot year around, but we all know that's not an option. I despise wearing shoes, or socks for that matter. Plus, we get to shed all those bulky clothes when the weather warms, and I for one, wear the minimal a woman over fifty can get by with. lol.

Love the smell of freshly turned soil, freshly cut grass, honeysuckle, sunshine, warm on my skin. Nothing better.

When I took control of my career last year and became an INDIE writer, I began designing my own covers. Fortunately, I was a professional photographer at one time and my wife a semi-pro model AND both of my children are artists, so I had material to work with. Being computer literate also helps. For my cover of sexy caper novel SLICK TIME, I took a miniskirted model to a yacht harbor. It was fun, as well as rewarding with an excellent cover.
