Daniel Hart is a graduate student at the University of Arcane Studies, who works in a museum and mostly enjoys his calm, routine life. Everything changes when he meets Rhys Daveth, a visiting businessman with mysterious connections who pursues him with a passion that Daniel has never experienced before. The chemistry between them is undeniable, but things take a turn for the worse when Daniel is arrested for a crime he didn’t commit, one that he suspects his new lover had a hand in. Once the truth comes out, Daniel will have to choose between the future he had planned and something deeper, more exciting and far more dangerous than he could have imagined.

EXCERPT:

I couldn’t say no to him. “Okay. My place.” I restarted the car, and we drove in silence to my apartment. I lived on the top floor in a five story apartment complex by the river, and during the summer, when the heat was incredible and the air stuck to you like a foul and cloying perfume, it wasn’t the nicest place to be. I hoped to God no one broke into the Hummer while we were inside. That wouldn’t help matters any.

Neither of us said anything while we took the elevator upstairs. I was determined not to apologize again for taking him someplace he said he wanted to go, and Reese seemed to be in his own head space. We got to my floor, walked down to my place, and I let us in. He went in first and stopped a little ways in past the door, just looking around.

“Oh.” Yeah, it was a little messy. I had books, references and photocopies lying on every flat surface, and more tacked to walls and stuck on the fridge with magnets. I was almost to the end of my thesis and, not being naturally organized, I’d decided the best way to keep track of things was to arrange them so that I could see everything I needed. “Sorry about the mess.” Damn it, there I went apologizing.

“Not a problem, pet,” he said after a moment, shrugging out of his incredibly expensive jacket and tossing it over the back of a chair. That reminded me of my own tux, which was way too hot for an apartment without air conditioning. I took off the jacket and vest, hanging them next to the door, then started on the tie.

“Let me.” Reese’s fingers closed over mine for a moment, then slipped beneath them and went after my tie. He moved slowly, strangely focused on a task I was sure he could have finished in two seconds. He looked at my tie, and I looked at him. Once he had it undone and lying across my shoulders I asked, “Are you okay?”

He considered it for a moment. “Not sure, pet. I’ll figure it out soon enough.”

“Is there anything I can do for you?”

That brought his smile back. “I’m sure you can, Danny, if you’ve got a bed hidden somewhere in this charming little walk-up.”

“It’s not a walk-up,” I reminded him as I went over to the couch and started clearing papers off it. I took the cushions off, then pulled out the fold-away bed. I had just done my bi-weekly sheet change, so at least I had that going for me. Otherwise it was…well, what it was. “It’s not exactly the Marquis,” I said quietly.

“S’got you, Danny.” Reese’s long arms slid around my waist, and his lips nuzzled into the back of my head. “Better than any other bloody thing lately, including that sodding hotel.” He kissed my neck, and I closed my eyes with a shiver. “You’ve the patience of a saint, pet. You know that?”

“Yes.”

“The modesty of one, too.”

“I’m taking a page from your book, Reese.”

“Mmm…are you on the page where I strip you down and have my way with you, Danny?” he purred in my ear.

“I could be on that page,” I admitted, leaning back into him. “With a little encouragement.”

“Well, I’m an encouraging bloke.” He slid the dangling tie off my shoulders and dropped it on the floor, then began slowly unbuttoning my shirt as he kissed me again. And again, and again. He shifted their placement, but he never stopped kissing me. My thoughts went from acutely aware of my surroundings to a slow building desire that blotted out every trace of self-consciousness. Eventually I was completely undressed, and at Reese’s mercy, but he was still almost fully clothed. This seemed wrong to me, and I told him so.

“You can’t fuck me through those pants.”

“Not planning on fucking you, pet,” he replied as he gently turned me and pushed me down onto my back. “Too rough a word for what I’ve got in mind.”

“What, then?” I gasped before he took me into his mouth. He didn’t reply, just focused on my cock, stroking it firmly but slowly, so slowly, sliding over me and hitting every sensitive spot with the tip of his tongue and the pads of his fingers, driving me completely insane. “Oh, god…more, harder, please…”

“Not now,” Reese murmured as he pulled back. He ghosted his fingers over my entrance. “Sore, pet?”

“A little,” I admitted.

“Thought so. Where’s your gear?”

“Nightstand.” He opened the drawer and grabbed my condoms and lube. “You should check the expiration dates, though.”

Reese mercifully didn’t say anything about that, just checked before nodding. “Fine, Danny. Roll over onto your side.”

“Aren’t you going to…” I gestured at him weakly.

“Undress? Nah. Can’t stay long, Danny, my bloody boss has plans for me.”

“At ten at night?”

“Business never sleeps, pet. Besides, I want to go to her all mussed and smelling like you, so the bitch knows exactly what she’s interrupting. Make her so fucking pissed.” He set a hand on my shoulder and gently guided me onto my side, and then a moment later his hand was between my legs, slick and soft. “You’re all lovely and relaxed, pet.”

“You fucked the tension right out of me earlier.”

“Happy to hear it.” A few seconds later he was entering me, still slow and gentle, the first time he had really been gentle with me. He kissed my bare shoulder and hugged me close, rubbing his thumb lightly over my nipples again and again. I arched back against him, closing my eyes and sighing. He withdrew and pressed back in, out and back in, his angle just enough to brush my prostate and start a smoldering ache deep inside of me. He didn’t touch my cock, just my chest and stomach, barely-there caresses.

“Reese…”

“Let it build on its own, pet,” he whispered. “It’ll be worth it.”

It built, minute after minute, the desire and the urge, and that tightening sensation of expectation. I was panting, moaning with each exhale as Reese made love to me. He was right; this wasn’t fucking. This was too soft, too loving for that. I forced my mind away from those thoughts with an effort, focusing back on the moment. I was going to come, soon, and it was going to be incredible. “Reese…”

Todd Thorpe knows all about the laws of attraction and how to create energy to heal. He owns Healing Hands, a natural healing center, where he helps people make the most of their life. Now she’s returned, and everything is a matter of a heart. With each steamy encounter, she’s discovering the joy of her new life, and with each heartbeat, she’s falling more and more in love.

This is a re-release of the book previously titled Au Naturel.

EXCERPT:

Squeezing her eyes closed, she thought about everything she’d been through in the last few years. Rebuilding her life indeed—and what a way to do it.

Todd reached beneath the blanket to cup her other breast.

Reba arched into his touch. Sliding his fingers underneath her sweater, he unfastened the front hook on her bra and rolled her hard nipples in his fingers. She moaned, the thrust of his rigid shaft against her hip reminding her of her empty channel. Open-mouthed, he kissed her neck, sucking hard and then laving the spot with his tongue. Reba stroked his smooth cheek and cupped the back of his neck.

He sucked and licked as if he had all the time in the world, and perhaps, Reba mused, he did. His hands still under her sweater, he palmed her breasts. His warm fingers covered her skin and tiny jolts of electricity shot between her nipples and down to her cunt. From her position on his lap, she couldn’t fondle him, and as he stretched his leg out alongside hers she thought perhaps that had been his plan after all.

She slid her fingers down his jean-clad thigh, squeezing as he pinched her nipples and sent pleasure rocketing through her. He murmured to her, mostly how beautiful she was, how good she tasted, and she basked in the glow of his words and his lips and his fingers. Sitting in his lap like this, she felt as cherished as a fine porcelain doll, and for once, she didn’t mind feeling fragile.

Todd splayed his fingers across her stomach, inching lower until he touched the waistband of her jeans. A flick of his wrist undid the button and he lowered the zipper. The rasp of metal teeth filled the air and Reba sucked in a breath as he caressed her skin through the silk of her panties. He groaned as he found her curls and then moved lower, where her juices moistened the thin fabric across her labia. He slipped his finger inside the elastic.

The pleasure of his finger sweeping across her nether lips bowed her back and she cried out as tiny spasms rocked her core. He removed his fingers long enough to push down her jeans and panties until they tangled around her knees, and she leaned forward to pull off her sweater and bra.

The open curtains didn’t bother her. Trees screened the large window from the street and the blanket still lay bunched around her lap and breasts. Todd pulled off his shirt and nestled her against his hair-roughened chest. He framed her breasts with his arms and they plumped between his limbs. Tracing a path over her stomach, he slid his fingers down to her pussy, caressing the insides of her thighs and spreading them wider as his fingers stroked up and down her labia. Reba gasped and lost herself to the sensation.

“That’s it, baby. Just feel,” he whispered in her ear. He pulled her earlobe into his mouth and suckled, his fingers delving between her plump lips to stroke her slit.

Her heart pounded. Her breath came in harsh pants, yet she didn’t fear for her health. Energy filled her, pulsing and warm like his cock. She basked in it, just as she’d basked in her first reiki treatment. Whether he used reiki or not on her now, she appreciated the heat, the stroke of his fingers inside her channel and the way his thumb flicked over her clit.

Todd brought her higher and higher. If she had any doubts about her love for him, the gentle nips and strokes of his fingers eradicated them. She loved him. Heart and soul, body and mind, she loved Todd, and from the way he touched her, she new he loved her too.

Her worries fled. He added a second finger, then a third, the bulk of his digits filling her clenching channel. “Come for me.” His husky command drove her over the edge and she came in an explosion of light and feeling. Her whimpers grew louder, more insistent. And then they broke with a crescendo that filled the living room with her joyous noise. Behind her, Todd groaned as she thrust against his fingers. Harder, deeper, fingers curled as he stroked her G-spot, and then, with no time to breathe, she came again.

Ripples of pleasure raced through her body, a never-ending loop between her pussy and her breasts, down her arms and through her legs. Eyes closed, she drew ragged breaths. Her blood pulsed in her veins and she cried out again as he flicked his thumb over her clit.

“Todd, please.” A part of her wanted to stop, wanted to tell him it was too soon after her release from the hospital, but damn it felt so fucking good to have his fingers inside her and his thumb on her clit. The thick invasion of his cock would feel so much better—and she wanted it too. To hell with waiting another week. She felt ready now. “Fuck me.”

“You sure?” Todd’s fingers stilled.

“My heart tells me that I’m very sure,” she breathed.

Eastern Promise by Jasmine AherneLast month, I went to China. It was a family holiday and my first trip there. I’d been to Malaysia and Thailand before, but never to China. It’s a shame as my grandfather was from there, but I never got to see his homeland before he died.

Our first stop, after two seven hour flights (London to Dubai, Dubai to Peking) was Beijing, the capital of China. It’s huge, this massive towering shiny thing of a city. There are people everywhere, and just as many bicycles as cars. Drivers absolutely love honking their horns.

Food is sold anywhere there is a surface flat enough to cook on. Don’t ask what sort of meat is in the pie, just eat it. If the locals frequent a stall or eatery, go there. Avoid the posh tourist spots, they’ll charge a lot.

The hygiene was something I just couldn’t get used to. The public toilets are horrific – not so much the hutong (squatting) part, but the lack of a toilet paper disposing device (most places had a bamboo bin, and it was always overflowing). The toilet doors didn’t lock either, even in the most upmarket department stores. It was a real culture shock.

However, we did see Tianamen Square and the Forbidden City, and the Great Wall. The Great Wall was staggering in real life. So many many miles, so high, and the beauty of the artwork, especially the Tomb of the Horse God, along the Zuhong section of the wall. The intricacy of the brush strokes and the way they’ve survived over a good hundred years of so is truly awesome.

Three days in Beijing, and still jet lagged, we flew two and a half hours to Xiamen, in Fujiang Province, the holiday province of China. It lived up to its hype, especially the island of Gulanju. Picturesque, it offered fresh fish restaurants, gorgeous gardens full of colour, and a museum about an ancient Chinese nurse who was one of the first women to work throughout China.

The food here was delicious too, mainly fish based. Never before have I been able to point at a live, swimming fish and eat it twenty minutes later! It was slightly unnerving to look at my dinner in the face though!

We saw an amazing amount of sights in Xiamen. Our hosts, my cousins, had us up at 7am each day to start, because by mid afternoon the temperature is so high (39 degrees) that everyone needed an afternoon siesta!

My favourite trip by far was to Tong-An movie City, which has a miniature version of the Great Wall, the Forbidden City and all other Chinese monuments. We even got to dress up as ancient Chinese nobles for the equivalent of about $3 each!

Finally, flying home was sad but nice. After two weeks on a flat wooden pallet (good for your back and less sweaty than sheets) I have to admit I was very much looking forward to a soft bed!

You can see some pictures of my trip at www.jasmineaherne.com

After enjoying a doctor’s articles on the Huffington Post, I recently borrowed his book from the library. Now, I liked what the book had to say. It was an eating plan, that while I can’t hop on “cold turkey” (The day I give up coffee is the day that googly-eyed aliens from Mars land and offer us the elixir of immortality!), I can start to incorporate in my life. And in fact, I’d be shouting the name from the roof tops, because even after doing something as slightly modifying my favorite smoothie recipe, I can tell a difference in how I feel. Except…every three pages in the book, the doctor directed you to his website, to sign up, download something, basically giving you a marketing pitch. I have a pretty high tolerance for such things, but when it’s obvious that the author is writing simply to drive more people to his website so he can simply make more sales of crazily-priced supplements (The ones he “suggested” I take were nearly $400 a month. My favorite store iherb.com sells them for a heck of a lot cheaper, and by getting some things at amazon.com, that saves me even more… anyway….) The “authentic” wore off pretty quickly, so much so that the three books of the doctor’s that I had checked out from the library are in the pile to be returned as soon as possible. Yeah, I won’t dismiss him out of hand because some of the stuff works, but it’s all being taken with a grain of salt now, when before I’d swallowed it hook, line, and sinker.

Same goes for other things online. I signed up for a blog challenge, mostly to get the thirty-one tips and daily email motivations. I also had hoped it’d drive me to work on a personal blog project. Sadly, the tips and motivation came. When I did get the PDF file of all the tips, well, let’s just say they weren’t really good tips. It was obvious from the gazillion OTHER emails I’ve gotten from this person that she, and her buddies to whom she passed on my email address, were just in it for the email collection. (Note: This was not a writing or publishing related challenge.)

So, what does that tell us as authors, publishers, and the proverbial content providers online?

Be authentic.

How can you do that?
